Like Precious Woods Costa Rica, Precious Woods Nicaragua, which was founded in 2003, plants valuable species of timber on former pastureland.
Over the past few years operations have developed rapidly in two distinct geographical areas: at the Pimienta and Javalina fincas in the western municipality of Cardenas near the Interamerican Highway on the one hand, and at Esperanza in the east, on the Rio San Juan on the other.
As with all subsidiaries of the Precious Woods Group, Precious Woods Nicaragua strives to create threefold added-value: economic, social and ecological. We also seek to ensure that the reforestations in Nicaragua generate carbon credits in the context of the Kyoto Protocol. The sale of these emission rights will slightly improve the overall yield and compensate the heightened country risk. By the end of 2006, 1,800 ha were planted in Nicaragua.
In the yearly average of 2006 Precious Woods employed 219 people in Nicaragua. The creation of new jobs in outlying rural areas of one of the poorest countries in Latin America is of immense importance for the social development of the region.
The locations and detailed descriptions of all our fincas can be seen on the interactive map of Northern Costa Rica and Southern Nicaragua.
