Sorro

Source

FSC® Sorro is available in the forests of Precious Woods, located in the Congo Basin of Gabon. The medium large tree attains heights up to 30 m and diameters normally between 50 and 70 cm (but sometimes much thicker: 300 cm).

Appearance

Freshly sawn Sorro has a dark red to orange brown color. The (dark) red streaks result in an irregular pattern on the wood surface. Two types of heartwood could be found in this species: a reddish brown (and very durable) part and a more yellowish (and moderate durable) part. Due to yield reasons, it is not possible to select only the red or yellow timber. Sorro contains a red constituent. The 50-150 mm thick sapwood has a dull brown color and is sometimes difficult to distinguish. The grain is mainly straight, sometimes irregular or interlocked. The texture is fine to fine to medium fine.

Processing properties

The machining of Sorro can be done easily. Pre-drilling is recommended. The gluing and finishing properties are good. It dries rather quickly, with low risks of checking and deformation.

Application

Sorro can be used for interior applications, for example moldings, furniture, cabinet work, panelling and flooring. It is possible to use Sorro for outside applications like facades.
