Precious Woods Amazon practices sustainable forestry on 506'699 hectares of its own land in Itacoatiara (250 kilometers East of Manaus, Brazil) since 1996. The forest property is organized as one single forest management unit and managed sustainably preserving biodiversity.

The amount of timber that may be harvested is strictly limited. Over 45 different species of wood are utilized, contributing actively to the market development of lesser-known and therefore lesser-used tree species. Since 1997, the whole production chaon of Precious Woods Amazon is certified according to the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council
® (FSC®) and also according to the standards of the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

The timber harvested is processed into sawn timber, finished products - mainly for export to Europe, the United States and Asia - at Precious Woods’ own sawmill and manufacturing facilities close to Itacoatiara.

The wood waste from the sawmill is burned in a biomass power plant generating electricity for the nearby town of Itacoatiara. Precious Woods acquired the power plant, which is in operation since 2002, from its original owner in mid-2005 and holds a minority share of 40 %.
