FSC® Andiroba is available in the forests of Precious Woods, located in the Amazon region of Brazil. The trees attain only small diameter, with a straight and cylindrical trunk.

The color of the heartwood is reddish brown, with a nice golden lustre. It resembles mahogany. The sapwood is a few cm wide, and is sometimes difficult to recognize. There is no remarkable odour.  The grain is mainly straight, sometimes irregular or interlocked. The texture is medium fine. Sometimes, Andiroba is subjected to compression failure.

Processing properties

The Processing properties of Andiroba are good , with a nice smooth result. After sawing of already sawn timber, the wood has a tendency to warp.  Pre-drilling is recommended. Finishing and gluing are reported to be good. Drying goes slowly, with hardly any drying defects.

The mahogany-like timber can be used for furniture and flooring, stairs, moldings, carpentry, interior window frames and veneer. The use in exterior applications is restricted due to the lower durability.
