Movingui

orginates from the forests that grow in the Congo Basin in Gabon

Movingui

Source

Movingui is available in the forests of Precious Woods, located in the Congo Basin of Gabon. The tree attains heights up to 50 m and normally diameters between 70 and 140 cm. The trunks are straight and cylindrical.

Appearance

Freshly sawn Movingui has a light yellow to yellow brown color. The 20-30 mm thick sapwood is difficult to distinguish and has a pale yellow to greyish yellow color. Some trees contain wood with a beautiful pattern and sometimes a yellowish constituent –soluble in water– is present in the wood. The wood structure is often irregular and/or interlocked and the texture is fine to medium coarse.

Processing properties

The machining of Movingui can be done easily. The use of hard metal tools is advised due to the presence of silica in the wood, which causes a blunting effect on the tools. Pre-drilling is recommended. The gluing and finishing properties are rather good, although leaching of extractives could occur. It dries slowly, with nearly no risks of cracking and deformation.

Application

Due to the favourable properties, Movingui can be used for a wide spread of applications, for example cladding, garden timber, door and window frames, doors, windows, furniture, parquet and flooring.
